Dr. B.
I have some concerns. As we discussed when I had my appointment, I am increasingly concerned about medical costs. I have observed a continued collapse in the difference between opthamolegists and optometrists. The issue is the duplication of services and thus costs.
I had just--as I told you-- completed my yearly eye medical exam. My exam in your office was thorough, but I wonder, particularly in that last expensive medical test, was an unnecessary duplication in both tests and thus insurance costs. If we are to control the escalation in medical costs, unneeded tests would be a good place to start.
I have some other minor issues. Three times you mentioned a Dr. other than mine to whom I should go for any cataract surgery. Why, and is there a relationship between the two practices?
I was offered a sample, from some drug company of a nutritional supplement. Again, is there some relationship with that company?
I noticed on your web site that Inter valley is not listed as one of you insurance providers. So how was I covered? I will also inquire of them.
I paid $415 just for the new lenses using my old frames. This strikes me as a bit high. I should have reread my insurance policy to know that I was not due new lenses for another several months--if indeed my insurance applies in your practice.
The office visit was fine, and the exam thorough. As I told you, I write about medical costs and have the above questions.

Thanks for your review. I sent you a detailed email answering your questions and will post this short synopsis for others reading this review. I enjoyed our discussion on your research in the healthcare field and the articles you have written. Yes, there is overlap between the two eye professions. We are providers for vision care on your vision plan which is separate from your medical plan. Your vision plan is unique in that it does allow us to provide some medical, non-surgical, The retinal imaging we did is a very cost effective test. We frequently find pathology that changes the course of our treatment or recommendations. We do not have any financial interest in the practices of any surgeon on your plan. I recommend the Dr. that I believe has the most experience for the procedure you need and has the best outcomes. We just want happy patients! We do make a few dollars per bottle of retinal supplements we sell. We also make it very clear that that particular brand was recommended by the retinal specialists we work with and is available at pharmacies also. You were not eliglible for any benefits so your new lenses were ledgered at retail prices and you added a premium ant-reflection coating to the transitions lenses. Without those two add-ons your lenses would have cost much less. Please let me know if you were not informed that you were not eligible at the time you placed your order. Thanks for choosing us for your eyecare needs! Dr. B
