Thank you for asking! I had a real nice visit . The Doctor was right on in hearing me out on my concerns. Checked out the problem tooth. Then had a reasonable explanation for the pain I was having. Then properly took care of filling the teeth that were scheduled to be filled. What a blessing!

The visit was, as always, a blend of professional and persona. i.e. I like the people and I like the way things get done!

I learned this in the service...nobody gets an excellent rating, Above Average is like, the best. Thank you Gwen, both Marta & I were pleased with your cleaning of our teeth. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Katayama checks my teeth out. He keeps trying to convince me to get a bridge, implants, tooth whitening, etc...I'm 62 years old, happily married, have the same teeth in my mouth that were there when I was 20. All I ask that you help me keep what I got & you've been doing that.

From the front desk staff to the dental assistants to the hygienist and, definitely, to Dr, Katayama himself, everyone at Doc's on 12th is professional, welcoming and caring. I am grateful that I have this team to do my dental work!

Personally I don't like the iPad sign in procedure. There are two people at the front desk who should be checking people in. This is not customer service. Yes, I understand you want to be paperless, but does this mean you will stop accepting checks and cash? I think not. Instead of asking at the front desk if there are any changes to my health or medication, this should be done by the dentist or hygienist who are better trained of the implications of these changes. I will be going elsewhere for my future dental care. I've been with this office since Dr Shawa owned it, over 16 years and I've seen a steady decline of customer service and an ever changing staff. This tells me the working environment in this office isn't healthy and I need to take my business elsewhere.

Doc's on 12th replied:

In response to your comments regarding the iPad Kiosk and going paperless, we have an obligation to follow rules and regulations that our government sets. Every medical and dental facility is required to be paperless by 2014 so we are making changes early, not only so we can get used to it but getting our patients used to it as well. It is actually beneficial in collecting information direct from the patient (who would otherwise be filling out papers on a clipboard) and reducing mistakes that might be made when someone has to re-enter the information from the paper forms. You just can't read some peoples writing! Also, it takes the patient much less time on the iPad than it does filling out papers.

The front desk has always been the source for getting updates on patients health and medications via: clipboards and paper forms given to fill out every six months (as required by law). We find having that information in our system prior to the patient being seated for their appointment helps the Dentist and Hygienist review the information much more quickly which makes for less time in the chair for the patient! Who wouldn't like that? That is good customer service.

We have a great working environment and the view can't be beat! People have lives and in those lives changes and circumstances exist and are sometimes out of our control (especially the weather here). Not everyone stays in the same job for 50 years.

We are sorry that the iPad upset you to the point of wanting to go elsewhere but I think you are going to find the same technology in other dental offices and at your Dr.'s office as well. HIPPA Laws are driving this change so you can always talk to the law makers and voice your unhappiness.

We will still take cash and checks until the government regulates that too.
