I took my dog in because she was feeling ill and wouldn't eat or drink water which was highly unusual for her. The vet recommended that some tests be run and then based on those that she be hospitalized since her internal levels were elevated. They hooked her up to IV Fluids and she stayed overnight. The next day when I came to visit and she looked better. The vets mentioned that they had bathed her because she was covered in vomit and diarrhea, yet when I checked her rear end it was still covered in crusted poop. She was still not 100% for normal internal levels, so it was recommended she stay one more night. The next day we came to pick her up and she was much better and it was again mentioned that they cleaned the hind end because she had diarrhea. However, when I again checked her hind end, it was covered in poop and reddened. And she reeked-smelling like vomit and nastiness. But at least she was up walking around, keeping down food and water, interested in eating again, and happy to see me. I washed her as soon as we got home. Later my dog was just sleeping and poop literally leaked out of her butt. I washed her again and looked at her behind. I'm not a vet tech, a vet, or an expert, but her butt didn't look right as it was swollen, red, missing hair, and was leaking blood and figured that would be something which the experts would have noticed and informed about. My friend whose dog has had an anal problem previously told me it looks like the poop had been left on her which irritated her bum, she probably has an infection, and her anal glands need to be expressed. To my understanding, the vet did an exam, and the vet/vet techs checked on her multiple times. I was charged for a bath and an exam among other things such as "professional services." While I understand the costs for x-rays, bloodwork, and IV fluids, I honestly don't feel like the visit was worth the $1K+ that the bill came out to. Besides that, the front desk staff didn't seem to have been kept in the loop or know what was going on.
