Frustrating interaction with front desk who insisted I needed to have an HSA in place before they would submit to my insurance. This is patently untrue and I confirmed as much with my insurance company and my insurance broker. That led to me being charged out of pocket and also wondering how, if at all, my claim will be filed with my insurance company. This follow up work is now on my plate when the office could have simply submitted to my insurance.
Having that conversation while standing on my leg which needed immediate sutures was unprofessional and embarrassing and, it turns out, unnecessary.
Doctor and medical care were fine.

First, please let us say that we are sorry that there was a misunderstanding. Hopefully the following will help clarify the process of insurance billing.
As a standard policy and before claims are submitted to the insurance companies, our front desk receptionist verifies each of our patients insurance before each visit. When a patient comes in and the insurance verifies as having an HSA (which yours did), we do not collect anything for the visit. However, you stated that you did not have an HSA. When there is no HSA or copay and the deductible is not met, there will be a charge for the visit.
