I was told I had a cavity on a back tooth that needed to be filled( without seeing an x-ray or having pain) So, trusting the Dr. I set up the appointment. The front desk had me sign a form that said my insurance will cover the filling 100%. Knowing that I have coverage for silver fillings, I didn't think twice about it. I asked again when I came to get the filling if I would owe any money, they replied, "no, you are totally covered."
The dentist ( after waiting an hour past my appt time) proceeded to put a more expensive white filling on my back tooth. Then I get a bill for $65.00!! The office is not standing behind their quote or giving me a reason as to why a white filling was put in without asking. To make matters worse, the tooth that was filled is so painful I am now forced to have a root canal or an extraction! When i aske the receptionist if the dr. Would examine the tooth again free of charge, she wouldn't give me a straight answer. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a dental office! I am so upset and now I am mostly likely going to lose my tooth. I wish I never even heard of this place.

First, we want to apologize that your experience at New Holland Dental Care did not meet your expectations. We try hard to make all of our patients visits positive but sometimes we fall short.
Since you have not identified yourself, we cannot review your case specifically. However, what you describe is a fairly common problem that we...and patients such as yourself...face. We try to anticipate and estimate what insurance companies will pay for any particular procedure. 80% of the time, our estimate is in the ballpark. But, there are times when the insurance company comes up with new rules, new reimbursement schedules, new payments, etc. We have no control over the insurance companies. As a matter of fact, the relationship exists between a patient and their insurer, not the dental practice. They routinely refuse to give us any information. For your case it seems as if this insurance company downgraded your claim to a mercury filling, which we do not place. As a matter of fact, we have not placed mercury fillings for over 25 years because of the toxicity concerns.
There are situations where a filling causes post-operative pain and needs further observation or additional treatment. Often times there is no charge for a follow up visit, but that is determined by the treating dentist, not the receptionist.
We are truely sorry that your tooth is giving you problems. If you need additional help, please let us know so we can address your concerns.
