I am new to Sioux Falls and was prepared to drive 4 hours to Minneapolis to get my hair cut - because no black hair salons or Dominican salons appeared in my Google search for Sioux Falls or neighboring towns in Nebraska or Iowa. I have been going to Dominican salons for the past 4 years. I am a Caribbean-American black woman with kinky-curly medium- coarse hair. I wear my hear natural, don't use chemical relaxers, so even in a place with many black salons- I'd be hard pressed to find a hair-dresser who knows how to care for my hair.
I was referred by a co-worker to Yolanda at Offbeat Glamour and was apprehensive when I went there for the first time yesterday. But I am happy to say that Yolanda was fabulous. I got my hair washed, blown out, flat ironed and trimmed. The trim is what I really need more than anything- my split ends were frightening.
I'm pleased to say she knew what she was doing and did a very thorough job. She is so gentle, that I could barely feel her working on my hair.
I recommend her - she also does corn-rows and weaves. She knows how to comb out natural hair and like I said she'd be a dream for someone who is very tender-headed or for small children. She's experienced working with many textures of hair.
Yolanda is also a very nice person, great warm personality -and professional.
