I went to the Monday night hot yoga class. I'm familiar with yoga but not a regular attender to any class. The instructor led us through the poses - the structure of the class seemed pretty focused on athletic performance. I expected this, as it says as much on the website description. The instructor was emphatic that we shouldn't let our ego get in the way of our 'practice.' This was good advice to me - somewhere in the middle of the class I had to take an extended child's pose break when I stood up to do a warrior's pose and all the blood rushed from my head. All in all, I had a great time. She was also very gracious when I spilled my water bottle on the floor.
I don't know if I'd recommend this class as a 'first yoga experience' to someone who didn't already posses a degree of athleticism. The heat and strenuous flow of poses may pose a danger to are not accustomed to exercise. That being said, I had fun and I'm going back tonight.
