About
Philip L. Shettle, D.O. is a board certified ophthalmologist. He graduated from Stetson University and went on to obtain his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO. He completed a rotating internship, followed by residencies in ophthalmology at Sun Coast Osteopathic Hospital, Largo, FL and Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Missouri. Dr. Shettle is a clinical instructor at NOVA Southeastern University of Health Sciences and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees 1995-97. He is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology as well as an Osteopathic Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shettle was President of the American Osteopathic Association 2005 - 2006 and is currently President of the American Osteopathic Foundation. He is active in numerous other national, state and local professional organizations. He was named Pinellas County Osteopathic Physician of the Year in 1994 and is a past president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, 1993-94, a member Board of Governors, NOVA Southeastern University, Health Sciences Division since 1993, and received the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Distinguished Service Award 1996. He received the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Distinguished Service award in 1997. Dr. Shettle received the Honorary Degree - Doctor of Humane Letters in 2006 and the Alumnus of the Year Award in 2011 from A. T. Still University of the Health Sciences, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
