Quality of care: 5-stars
The quality of care at VCA has rarely been in question. The vets associated with this particular visit were quite competent and obviously quite caring. The support staff also provided their usual, excellent and caring service. To be honest, Alexandria's Animal Hospital's staffing is *the* reason that I keep returning to Alexandria Animal Hospital even though prices have skyrocketed since their acquisition by VCA.
That said, unless your pockets are *deep* I can no longer recommend Alexandria Animal Hospital to anyone for other than after-hours services. Having priced equivalent, non-emergency procedures with other vets, I've found that VCA are quite literally 2-4x as expensive for like-kind procedures performed through other providers in the DC area. And, while their emergency and after-hours fees are equally punishing, it's not exactly like most pet owners are going to be in a state of mind to try to "shop around". To be honest, the current pricing level makes me wonder how many pets have been surrendered and/or euthanized since VCA's acquisition of Alexandria Animal Hospital (due to owners thinking they can't afford appropriate care for their pets).
