My partner and I are massage enthusiasts and enjoy them whenever possible. To kickoff a romantic weekend we scheduled a couples massage with reflexology. My partner had an incredible experience, I did not. His therapist created a relaxing experience; a towel over his eyes while face up and massaged using slow deep strokes. My experience began with a table that was set quite high, even for me (standing at over 6 foot 2). It seemed odd as my therapist was my height or shorter. Starting on my back, I didn't get an eye covering. My therapist started rubbing my neck and was spending an inordinate amount of time on my right-side neck. So much so it hurt...not in a therapeutic way. The spot he rubbed was my carotid artery, not a muscle. I opened my eyes to find his face inches from my mine. It was disturbing. I noticed my partner's therapist had already left his upper body, mine was still working the same side of my neck. I asked him to move from my neck. Throughout the pressure was not consistent. It began super light. He didn't check with me during the message to ensure the pressure was adequate until I spoke up. I asked for a deeper touch. He immediately would find a pressure point with his elbow to 'show' he was pressing harder, it just hurt. The message began with deep inhalations of oils from the therapists hands. He flapped his hands in my face violently, causing drops of oil to land on me. My partner was sound asleep and relaxed. I was not. My therapist seemed to rush in some areas to play 'catch up' and dwell in other areas (like my carotid artery) that didn't seem to have a therapeutic value. His massage technique involved short, quick and shallow movements. He would also tuck the sheet violently under me, which was startling at times. If the massage had been one on one, not a couples massage, I would have left the room early. I did not want to disturb my partner. When I conveyed this to the staff they apologized and gave me a $25 gift card. Services cost almost $500. I expected much more than a brush off. I won't be returning to this location.
